What should I do in emergency situations?
After surgery: Call or email for a new copy if you have lost the one you received. Remember to talk to your doctor and dentist if you are taking medicines that affect surgeries and painkillers, etc.
After root canal treatment: With a started root canal treatment, you have had a part or all of the nerve in your tooth removed. With a complete root canal treatment, the interior of the root has been filled. This will most often proceed without symptoms or with a little soreness for 1-2 days. Take painkillers if needed. If the pain is persistent or increasing, please contact us.
In case of lost crown / bridge: Keep your tooth clean and save the crown so we hopefully can cement it again. Get an appointment as soon as possible.
In case of lost seal / filling, broken tooth or knocked a tab of the tooth: Keep your tooth clean and get an appointment as soon as possible. If you have a lot of pain, the nerve can be damaged, seek emergency help.
Knocked a tooth out or cracked a tooth so the nerve is visible: Contact the Tandskadevagten immediately. Store the tooth in water to prevent desiccation.
Fracture of the crown: If the tooth piece is found, it may be re-glued. Over time, it may become white and dry out. If the nerve is exposed, it is covered with a special root canal treatment material that causes the hole into the nerve to close and hopefully heal within 2-3 months. Then the final treatment can be gluing the fragment, or repairing with plastic, porcelain facade or a porcelain crown so that you can not see the damage.
Movement of the tooth or fracture of the root: The tooth is put back in place in the jaw and glued to the neighboring teeth with plastic to protect it during the healing period. After 2-4 weeks, the plastic rail is removed. If it loosens in the meantime, it must be glued on again.
Damage to the nerve: The tooth “dies”, a root inflammation occurs and a root canal treatment must be performed. There may be a discoloration of the tooth that can be bleached or covered with a crown.
Control: This is necessary to see the consequential damages and how the final treatment should be.
Food and drink: Soft food and avoid to overload the damaged teeth, especially the first 7 days after the accident.
Oral hygiene: Normal cleaning of teeth and gums is part of a quick healing. After each meal, rinse your mouth thoroughly with water. Rinse mouth 3x daily for 1 min Chlorhexidine mouthwash 0.1% (pharmacy, Matas) and check that braces and teeth are clean.
Accident insurance: You must report the damage to the insurance company yourself. Remember journal transcript from “tandskadevagten”. Remember to make an appointment with us and take the forwarded “dental certificate” with you so that we can do the professional part (cannot be done without a visit to the clinic).
Occupational injury insurance: Make an appointment with us and bring a transcript from “tandskadevagten” and a certificate from the insurance company.
Police certificate: As soon as possible and within 72 hours after the assault / traffic accident, have a report made by the police on the cause of the accident.
Victim of violence: You can seek compensation from the Compensation Board, even if the perpetrator is unknown, cannot be found, is under 15 years of age or is insane (mentally ill). Ask the police, a lawyer and www.civilstyrelsen.dk
